Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has addressed the platform’s relationship with owner Amazon amid reports that they view the streaming service as a “zombie brand.”

Over the last few years, there have been numerous reports about Twitch’s relationship with Amazon, its owners. The livestreaming platform has suffered a number of layoffs, leading to claims that Amazon views it as a “zombie brand” that they don’t care about all that much, especially with Twitch losing them billions over the years.

There have been claims from rival platforms that, before the end of 2026, Amazon might move on from Twitch altogether – either by way of a sale or just shutting the platform down like Mixer or Facebook Gaming.

Despite those claims, and viewership figures dropping to five-year lows, Twitch has continued to operate as normal.

Twitch CEO says Amazon is ‘taking care’ of platform

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy was actually quizzed on the relationship between the platform and Amazon during an interview with Bloomberg Technology, revealing that the owners are ‘taking care’ of Twitch’s massive standing.

“I mean, Amazon has been great at supporting everything that we’re doing,” Clancy answered. “Twitch gives Amazon a platform where they can reach a younger audience, which I think is important to Amazon.

“And really, what they’ve mostly done is, opposed to worrying about how they can use Twitch for something else, they’ve just been good shepherds. They’ve been hugely supportive and invested.”

Clancy also noted that Amazon accepts that they have to “take care” of Twitch, rather than negatively affecting it in any way.
