Even Twitch CEO Dan Clancy thinks it’s “better” for viewers to tip streamers directly over gifting subs due to the platform’s revenue split.

Twitch can be a great way for content creators to make a living, especially when they have access to the platform’s revenue tools like ads.

Another way that streamers make money is through subscriptions, whether they’re for individual viewers themselves or fans who buy in bulk and gift them to the community.

On October 6, Dan Clancy, the site’s CEO, was streaming with broadcaster ‘Heavenly’ when he was asked to gift 20 subs to her viewers. However, instead of following through, he had a different idea to ensure she kept more money.

Twitch CEO says it’s “better” to just tip streamers over gifting subs

As Clancy went on his phone to complete the transaction, he stopped and had second thoughts.

“Actually, no. No, no, no. I’m going to do better than gifting you 20 subs,” he said and pulled out his wallet. “This will be better, because if I gift you 20 subs, Twitch takes some of it.”

With that, the company’s head honcho took a $100 bill and handed it to Heavenly directly.

“This is for the live learn. There you go! And that way she gets it all. There we go, ok?”

Heavenly opted to ask the Twitch boss to sign the C note, adding that she never plans on spending it. However, it really goes to show that if the company’s CEO says it’s better to just tip streamers, then buying subs may not be the ideal option.

The Amazon-owned platform’s sub split has caused a lot of drama over the years, with many creators and viewers alike convinced that they’re not getting enough for the work they put in.
