As Avatar: Fire and Ash burns up the box office, Ubisoft’s open-world game, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, is soaring up the charts years after release. In fact, it’s more than quadrupled its previous best player count peak.
Despite what many across social media would try to have you believe, James Cameron’s Avatar franchise is a cultural behemoth. The first two films sit in first and third place, respectively, among the highest-grossing movies in history, and the new chapter, Fire and Ash, is already off to a roaring start as well.
Clearly, the world of Pandora is one that millions of fans around the globe would love to visit, and thankfully, there’s a game to help scratch that itch.
Although Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora struggled to move the needle at launch back in 2023, continuous updates and additional content have only garnered praise since. Now, on the back of its biggest update and story pack yet, paired with the release of Fire and Ash, it’s enjoying its brightest moment in the sun.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora player count shattered amid Fire and Ash success
As first spotted by TheGamer, Frontiers of Pandora has smashed through its previous concurrent player count record on Steam. Prior to December, 2025, the all-time high was 2,614 players checking out the game all at once, according to SteamDB.
Now, it’s reached a new all-time peak of 12,496 players as of December 22, 2025. More than quadrupling its last high point, the open-world action game is clearly being enjoyed by more players than ever, at least on PC. There’s no data to paint the picture across Xbox and PlayStation, but odds are it’s a similar case there too.
This resurgence has been triggered by multiple factors. Firstly, there’s the mammoth game update developers at Massive Entertainment rolled out in early December. After months of demand from the community, they finally added a third-person option, letting players experience Pandora from a new perspective.
Following the major update was From the Ashes, a pack of additional story-based content that actually takes place after the events of the new movie. It even gave us further clarity on a key character’s fate following Fire and Ash.
With both of these elements in play, combined with the immense wave of popularity circling the film series amid Fire and Ash’s time at the cinemas, it has created an upswell in interest. Frontiers of Pandora was in the perfect position to capitalize.
