Umamusume: Pretty Derby developer Cygames is launching its own dedicated AI studio, but what exactly they are going to do with it is unclear.
Best known overseas for Umamusume: Pretty Derby, the viral horse-girl racing game, Cygames is now moving into AI with the launch of a dedicated studio.
On January 9, 2026, the devs revealed Cygames AI Studio, Inc., a newly formed, standalone studio that’s focused on developing and providing AI-powered tools and services for creative production.
Umamusume devs reveal new AI-focused studio
In a translated press release, Cygames described generative AI as a key technology capable of turning accumulated knowledge into “the driving force behind the next wave of creativity.” The studio will work on everything from developing its own AI models to delivering tools that can be safely and securely used by creators on production sites.
It’s not exactly clear what this means, whether it will include developing new games with AI, or releasing generative AI products for others to work with.
Cygames says it aims to build a “unique creative cycle” that supports creators while prioritizing trust and safety, ultimately enabling new player experiences that align with its goal of creating “the best content.”
So far, Cycgames’ “best content” falls to Umamusume, the viral anime horse racing game, which continues to prove popular among fans around the world. From sponsoring major $300,000 US horse races to the community helping fund the real-life horses’ retirement home, Umamusume’s reach shows no signs of slowing down.
