Umamusume fans can now buy merch made from actual fences broken by one of Japan’s most notorious retired racehorses.
Tanino Gimlet is one of Umamusume’s most infamous real-life horses, known in retirement for repeatedly kicking and breaking the fences of his enclosure.
The former Derby winner’s destructive streak has become something of a running joke among fans, and Versailles Resort Farm, the stables where the retired racehorse lives, is now capitalizing on the meme.
Fence fragments broken by Tanino Gimlet turned into amulets
On January 6, Versailles Resort Farm announced that sales have opened for handmade amulets created using wood taken from a fence Tanino Gimlet famously destroyed during his retirement.
Each piece is completely unique, with the official page noting that no two items share the same look due to the natural grain of the timber and the individual strands of mane included.
The unusual merch comes from Tanino Gimlet’s life after racing at Versailles Resort Farm, where the former Derby winner became well known for repeatedly kicking and breaking his enclosure fences. Rather than discard the damaged boards, staff chose to repurpose them into keepsakes, turning the horse’s destructive habit into limited fan collectibles.
The amulets are being sold for ¥22,000, roughly $145, and will be shipped starting January 31, 2026, with overseas shipping options available.
While fence amulets are the latest example of how Umamusume’s fanbase continues to blur the line between fiction and reality, fans continue to help fund stables for retired racehorses like Meisho Doto and Transcend.
