The Indonesia Horse Racing Derby 2025 livestream has shattered its previous viewership record, and it’s all thanks to Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
According to KAORI Nusantara, an Indonesian pop-culture news outlet, this year’s event attracted around 270,000 viewers on YouTube, which is a massive jump from roughly 85,000 in 2024.
The spike came just weeks after the global launch of Umamusume: Pretty Derby, the popular horse racing and training game that has quickly taken the world by storm. In fact, Indonesia is one of the top five markets globally for downloads of the game, proving just how popular it is with fans.
Umamusume increases irl racehorse viewership in Indonesia
On July 27, fans of Umamusume flooded the Indonesia Horse Racing Derby chat with in‑jokes, memes, and references to the title’s characters, with some even going as far as creating fan art of Triple Crown Winner King Argentine.
The derby’s organizers even embraced the influx of viewers and actively encouraged the creation of Umamusume-style artwork for its horses.
While the derby has certainly sparked a lot of attention from Uma fans, it’s not the first time the game’s players have made a real-life impact. Fans have previously sent care packages to retired racehorse Haru Urara, one of the game’s featured characters, and one particularly passionate player even bought a real racehorse after being inspired by the title.
So, who knows what Umamusume fans will do next, but one thing is for sure – the Indonesia Horse Racing Derby is happy to have some newfound fans.
