Universal Studios Japan has announced plans to launch a brand new Pokemon experience, creating “immersive” experiences for fans of the creature-collecting series.

The news was confirmed by Universal Studios Japan on January 22, with the park revealing it is working on “innovative, immersive, and world-class Pokemon experiences” designed to bring the franchise to life in new ways.

According to the translated announcement shared alongside the reveal, the new Pokemon project will be “built around an ultra-real experience that stimulates all five senses,” with the experience currently being prepared for a world-first debut in Japan.

Universal Studios plans to launch global Pokemon experience

Universal Studios Japan said it is looking to build on the success of its previous Pokemon offerings, which have already featured prominently in seasonal events and live shows at the park. While specifics have not yet been confirmed, the company described the initiative as a major new step in realizing Pokemon as a full-scale theme park experience.

Following its debut in Japan, other Universal Studios parks will roll out unique Pokemon experiences to bring the franchise to fans around the world.

Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of The Pokemon Company, highlighted both the history of the partnership and the timing of the announcement.

“Since announcing our long-term alliance in 2021, we have collaborated with Universal Studios Japan to produce authentic Pokemon experiences such as the NO LIMIT! Parade and Halloween shows. As Pokemon celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, we are thrilled to launch this new project at such a significant milestone,” he said.

“Our mission is to enrich both the real and virtual worlds through Pokemon, and with this project, we aim to create theme park entertainment that surprises and delights fans around the globe.”

At the time of writing, no opening date or details on what the new Pokemon experience will entail have been shared. Universal Studios Japan confirmed that further information will be announced at a later date.
