A Pokemon card that isn’t even out yet is already being sold online for a hefty price. It’ll run you $800 USD to be an early owner.
Collecting Pokemon cards is supposed to be an exciting experience anyone can enjoy. But, of course, the reality isn’t always so rosy. Over the years, we’ve seen people go to extreme lengths just to get their hands on the latest set.
From camping outside stores overnight and emptying vending machines to even fighting in parking lots, the chaos never seems to end.
And lately, things have gotten even wilder. Listings for a Pokemon card that hasn’t even been released yet are already popping up on eBay, with sellers asking for as much as $800, as spotted by Wargamer.
Mega Gengar ex already listed online before launch
The card in question is none other than Mega Gengar ex, part of the upcoming Mega Dream expansion. So, how did it end up on online marketplaces so early? Simply put, the expansion is already available for pre-order.
Although it won’t officially release until November 28, 2025, that hasn’t stopped some sellers from jumping ahead and putting Mega Gengar cards up for sale despite no one having access to the set yet.
Naturally, since the card doesn’t even exist in circulation, all these listings use the same image. The overall situation is a strange one, too.
For buyers, that could be a major gamble. These listings might just be placeholders, and there’s no real way to verify what you’re paying for until the set officially releases. And since you can’t inspect the card’s condition, it’s an even bigger risk.
While sky-high Pokemon card prices are nothing new, as we’ve seen happen with plenty of sets before, selling a card that hasn’t even been released yet takes things to a whole new level.
It could be an efficient way of ensuring you can add the Mega Pokemon to your collection right away, or it could backfire, with no guarantee the seller will even be able to get their hands on the sought-after card.
