Major General William ‘Hank’ Taylor, one of the top officers in the US Army, has admitted to using ChatGPT to make key military decisions.

Artificial intelligence, like ChatGPT, has become a part of some people’s everyday lives. They’ll use it for work, you can ask it to curate Spotify playlists, and some stores in the United States will even let you use it to do your shopping.

Well, the US military have also admitted it to using it, at least those situated in South Korea. Speaking to Business Insider, Major General William ‘Hank’ Taylor said that he has become “really close” with ChatGPT recently.

“I’m asking to build, trying to build models to help all of us,” he told reporters in Washington DC. “As a commander, I want to make better decisions. I want to make sure that I make decisions at the right time to give me the advantage.”

US Army is even using ChatGPT

Taylor’s feeling about AI creating time-based advantages is something he’s noted before. As Business Insider reported, the Major General said in 2024 that people who think AI is “going to determine who’s the winner in the next battlefield” are not “all that far off.”

He also thinks that decisions on the battlefield are going to be made “at machine speed” and “not at human speed,” before too long.

However, this isn’t without issue. Other members of the US Army and government have warned that AI can leak sensitive data after it has learned all about it.

This isn’t the only example of AI being used to train soldiers. It was reported by Pablo Torre and Hunterbrook that BrainCo, a neurotechnology company, has likely had to give data to the Chinese government for military training.

BrainCo’s EEG headbands – called FocusCalm – have been used by top athletes like Charles Leclerc, Jannik Sinner, Iga Swiatek, Manchester City players, and esports pros too.
