Valorant’s 12.01 patch update is here, and some players are finally going to have to use MFA in competitive play. However, it won’t affect everyone.
Over the last few months, Riot Games have been cracking down on smurfs and boosters who have multiple accounts in Valorant. Back in May, they announced that they’d be implementing multi-factor authentication on certain accounts.
That change finally came into effect back in October, as MFA was brought in for “certain accounts” with the 11.09 patch. Riot confirmed that anyone detected as a shared account, suspected of having different players use an account, or Ascendant+ in NA, LATAM, BR, and KR would be affected.
Having the MFA enabled means that those accounts have access to Competitive play again. Now, with the 12.01 patch, European players are finally going to be affected.
EU Valorant players finally have to use MFA
That’s right, with the launch of the 12.01 patch, Riot Games are now requiring European players who have are Ascendant+ or have detected as a shared account or suspected of having different players use an account to use multi-factor authentication.
The steps are the same as before, meaning you’ll have to follow an email authentication or use Riot Mobile to confirm your identity.
If your account is not set up with MFA, you will not be able to access Competitive playlists until that is rectified.
Additionally, there are a big set of bug fixes for different agents in the 12.01 update. This includes a bug where ability icons would not update if a player was debuffed repeatedly with the same type of debuff by the same agent.
