Riot Games has confirmed when Valorant will be making its massive switch to Unreal Engine 5, and it’s actually pretty soon.

With Valorant hitting its fifth anniversary this summer, Riot Games has gone all-out to bring some pretty big changes to its competitive shooter. Corrode was the first new map added since Abyss, the likes of Waylay, Reyna, and Neon were given some big nerfs, and they’ve got plans to clamp down on smurfs.

The other big change that they’ve planned for the summer revolves around a switch to the game engine. At the end of May, the Valorant devs revealed that they’d be moving over to Unreal Engine 5 at “the end of July.”

According to the devs, the switch will “improve framerate performance” and “make patch downloads faster in the future.”

The vague mention of “the end of July” was all that Valorant fans had to go off for a while. However, Riot has now confirmed when the overhaul will happen.

“Yes, today is when we’d normally put out a new patch. But in order to prepare for the upcoming UE5 upgrade, we’re skipping Patch 11.01 and making any changes scheduled for this patch with 11.02, coming July 29. Just wanted to let you all know,” Riot’s Kenny ‘Karnifexlol’ Cameron said.

Riot had previously announced that anyone who logs into Valorant while the 11.02 patch is live will receive a special gun buddy. Which is always nice.

They still have some big changes planned for the rest of the year as well. The long-awaited replay system will finally be going live in September with the 11.06 patch. Big buffs and nerfs to Agents will also be looked at once Valorant Champs concludes in October.
