If you played Warzone throughout Black Ops Cold War’s lifecycle, you’ll remember the AUG’s domination. Well, it’s back in Black Ops 6’s Season 5 update.

While Warzone’s DMR meta is probably the most memorable, the AUG meta came soon after it. This burst-fire Tactical Rifle was capable of one-bursting players across the map with almost no recoil, and simply didn’t have a counter.

It was finally nerfed after weeks of player demands, and it returns in Warzone Season 5 on August 7.

AUG set to dominate Warzone once again

Now called the ABR A1, the AUG is a three-round burst Assault Rifle, and it also has a Fire Mod that turns it full-auto.

It’s impossible to say what effect it’ll have on the meta, but the devs’ description makes it sound like a powerful choice.

“The ABR A1 combines a high damage output that can drop enemies in tight three-round bursts with a brief pause in-between, almost fast enough to be called automatic,” said the devs in the Season 5 blog.

They called it a “highly versatile weapon capable of winning skirmishes, though not at the furthest of ranges.”

With easy-to-manage recoil, “good power” and “more than acceptable” handling, it has all the ingredients needed to take over the meta once again.

Also, bear in mind that new weapons are often the best; Season 4’s LC10 immediately became the best SMG in the game and has maintained that spot up to the final week of the season. There’s also the new PML 5.56 LMG, but with its “low mobility and hefty recoil,” it’s unlikely to make much of a splash.
