A refreshed version of Rebirth Island is coming to Warzone with the Season 2 update, but fans are already calling for one big change.
The Warzone Season 2 update is set to be yet another huge content drop for the CoD battle royale, bringing a host of new weapons, including the REV-46 SMG, as well as the return of the Ranked Play competitive mode.
But on top of all that, iconic Resurgence map Rebirth Island is being given a wintery makeover, with a fresh snowy look and new locations to explore. However, it also comes with the new Nova 7 gas bomb feature that players aren’t too impressed with.
Warzone players worried about new Nova Gas feature on Rebirth
As revealed in a behind-the-scenes video shared on X, at the start of a new match, one or more of Rebirth Island’s POIs could be covered in a toxic gas. This means that the area will be inaccessible for a short time, unless you’re lucky enough to find a Gas Mask, forcing you to land elsewhere.
“It’s just to switch around the way you drop in the map, just to sometimes break habits [and] discover new places,” explained Associate Creative Director Karl Beauregard. “So, this way, you’ll have new stories as you play on Rebirth Island.”
However, while the response to the visuals of the new Rebirth has been mostly positive, there have already been plenty of complaints from players about this new feature.
“Looks fire, but I speak for everyone when I say that Nova 7 gas element needs to be removed it’s going to be a NIGHTMARE,” said streamer Zyro, responding to CoD’s post.
“Imma just say it now, that infil gas s**t is not gonna fly. I don’t want the game deciding where I can and can’t land when the match starts,” replied another.
One of the main criticisms was that the idea is designed to make teams explore the map, but players have been experiencing Rebirth for many years at this point.
“Gas on infil to make you break habit and discover new areas… yeah new areas on a 5-year-old map, I know rebirth better than my own house,” posted one frustrated fan.
Even CoD expert JGOD predicted that the change won’t be well-received when it goes live: “Not a fan of the RCXD or the idea of the Nova gas, even though I understand their explanation for how it should theoretically impact the gameplay loop. People generally don’t like change in the [form] of limited choice of where they drop so we will see.”
