A new Warzone mode inspired by Black Ops 4’s Blackout, the Call of Duty series first attempt at a battle royale, is on the way, and the devs have finally revealed when it’s coming.

Call of Duty Next 2025 was our first in-depth look at Black Ops 7, but the announcement that stole the show was that a Blackout-style experience was coming to Warzone.

Following the success of Fortnite and PUBG, this was the franchise’s first stab at creating a battle royale. Although its reach was limited by being bundled together with Black Ops 4, rather than being free-to-play, it’s a mode that CoD fans remember fondly.

It helped lay the foundation for what Warzone became, but many fans have been desperate to see it return. Well, those wishes are finally being answered, so here’s everything we know about Warzone’s Blackout experience.

When is Blackout coming to Warzone?

The mode will be introduced as part of the Warzone Season 2 Reloaded update, as confirmed by the devs in the S2 blog post. There is currently no official date, but based on previous seasons, we expect it to be somewhere around March 12.

In Season 1, the mid-season patch dropped five weeks after the original update, so if they follow the same schedule, then this date is likely. However, it’s always possible it could be slightly earlier or later.

What is Warzone’s Blackout mode?

Very few details have been announced so far, but this new mode isn’t an exact recreation of Blackout from Black Ops 4. Instead, it’s being described as a “brand-new Battle Royale experience” that “draws inspiration” from what came before.

From the short clip released, we know that Wingsuits are making a comeback, allowing players to soar quickly through the air after jumping out of the plane at the start of a match. In the original game, they could also be redeployed when jumping from high vantage points, making traversal fast and easy.

They will likely replace the parachutes that serve a similar purpose in Warzone.

Map & POIs

The Blackout experience will take place on Avalon, which will be added to Warzone for the first time in the same update. This isn’t the first time fans have seen it, though, as it’s also the map that Black Ops 7’s Endgame uses.

Check out the POIs below:

  • Residences
  • Winery
  • Excavation Site
  • Colosseum
  • Resorts
  • Cliff Town
  • Water Treatment
  • Heliport
  • Car Factory
  • Old Arsenal
  • Chop Shop
  • Listening Post
  • Fort
  • Firing Range
  • Coastal Security
  • Low Town
  • High Town
  • Trinity Stadium
  • Golf Club
  • Casino

This has been a long time coming for Warzone players, as Avalon been part of CoD lore for some time. In fact, many of Black Ops 6’s maps were set in the fictional region, such as Skyline and Lowtown. Using BO6’s theatre mode, leakers were even able to fly around a low-res version of the map and make out key locations.

It was first thought to be a new BR map, before it was announced that Verdansk would be returning. Fans then thought it might replace Verdansk with Black Ops 7, but we got the new Haven’s Hollow Resurgence map instead, and Avalon was used for Endgame.

Now, though, the long-awaited battleground is finally arriving in Warzone as part of this brand-new mode.
