The Fantastic Four: First Steps is in cinemas now, and major plot details and scenes have quickly emerged on social media – including a fake version of its post-credits scene.

It’s par for the course with any new Marvel project: leaks spread across Reddit and X/Twitter before a movie’s release (some are true, others are made-up), and then when it finally hits cinemas, you need to mute all sorts of terms to avoid spoilers (including clips recorded in theaters the day it comes out).

It’s been particularly hard to dodge Fantastic Four spoilers. A big one leaked months ago, and its mid-credits scene was uploaded in full after somebody recorded it at an early screening.

There are two post-credits scenes floating around online: one is real, and the other is similar… but it’s generated by AI. Spoilers to follow…

Fake Fantastic Four post-credits scene is made with AI

In the real post-credits scene, Sue Storm finds a cloaked man crouching in front of Franklin Richards, and he’s holding a mask. It’s Doctor Doom, but crucially, we never hear his voice or see Robert Downey Jr’s face.

A similar clip made using AI has been doing the rounds on X/Twitter. In this version of the scene, Doom asks Franklin, “What’s your name, boy?”

“Don’t be afraid, I’m a friend of your father’s,” he adds, before revealing his face and saying, “I am Victor.”

The video was first posted by timeory on YouTube, and in the channel’s defence, it says outright that it’s a “concept and fan-made video… the visuals and sounds were created with AI and edited by US.”

However, other accounts have reuploaded it to try to trick fans; for example, neikosgamer shared it on X/Twitter, where it’s been viewed nearly 80,000 times.

Thankfully, people have quickly realized that it’s fake. “This is AI. You could’ve just shown the actual scene, but nope, just get on this app and post fake info, that’s the move,” one user wrote.

“This is an AI video, not a real post-credits scene. In the mid-credits scene, Dr. Doom’s voice and face are not shown,” another user posted, but they also criticized the actual scene, saying it should have “been something like this.”

Whether or not that’s true is up for debate. If Downey appeared at the end of Fantastic Four, there’s a good chance that would have dominated the conversation around the movie, whereas a tease of his costume is enough to tee up Avengers: Doomsday.

“The real scene was much better! You only see a little bit of him, not even his face, and that is exactly what a post-credits scene should be, it’s a tease,” one user argued.
