A Waymo self-driving taxi sped through a red light, terrifying the passengers inside, putting them off the service for a good while.

Self-driving taxis have started popping up across different parts of the United States. Tesla is testing its Robotaxi service, Amazon’s Zoox has begun testing in Las Vegas, and Waymo has been expanding from the West Coast to the East Coast.

All three, though, have had mishaps, especially when it comes to following traffic laws. Waymo taxis have been pulled over by police for speeding and taking wrong turns, while Robotaxis have dropped customers off in the middle of traffic.

With it being a bigger service than its rival, there have been a few more terrifying stories about Waymo than the others, including taxis driving through red lights.

Waymo runs red light on TikTok

Actress Mikayla Petrilla, who works on Saturday Night Live, posted a TikTok on October 16 of her Waymo speeding through a red light.

In the short clip, the actress can be heard asking the car, “are you gonna run it?” as it approaches an amber signal. However, the car continues to drive through a crosswalk way after the light changed to red.

“You’re running the light! You’re running the light! You just ran the light!” she added. The video has gotten around 1 million views, with plenty of commenters being scared to follow suit. “You’d be waymo safe if a person was driving the car,” one joked. “I honestly don’t trust these cars at ALL,” another added.

Some debated the safety of the car driving through the light too, suggesting that was the move. “It was at the TAIL END OF YELLOW. Waymo absolutely should’ve stopped,” one argued. “It would not have stopped in time and it was through the intersection before the red,” another said.

Petrilla posted a follow-up video on October 25, showing a Waymo driving through New York as she was walking by.

“No, no, no, no, no, no,” she said
