Fall is upon us, and with it comes a new season of anime and the stress of somehow finding the time to watch it all. We have returning favorites, legends making their last bow, and plenty of new shows hoping to leave a mark on a busy anime landscape. Of course, some shows — like One Piece — will continue airing new episodes through the next few months, while popular shows like Dan Da Dan just wrapped up to make way for the new wave of anime.
If you can only subscribe to one anime streaming service, and you care about having the largest library available almost immediately after the episodes air in Japan, Crunchyroll is still your best option. Though competitors like Netflix are starting to catch up with exciting titles and simulcast, Crunchyroll is still the king of anime streaming. For that reason, I've broken down every anime the platform will simulcast in October ahead of the new anime season.
New Fall Anime: Highlights on Crunchyroll
My Hero Academia Final Season
Premieres October 4
After almost a decade on the air, My Hero Academia is entering its final season, bringing the conclusion of the epic fight between good and evil, between All For One and One For All. The last couple of seasons have been the show at its very best, as you can read more about in my review of season 6. Expect plenty of spectacle only Bones Studio can deliver, but also plenty of emotion as we get to the end of Kohei Horikoshi's beloved manga and the story of Izuku Midoriya.
Spy x Family Season 3
Premieres October 4
Spy x Family is pure comfort anime, a family sitcom but with more assassinations. Though Season 2 hit some lows, the CODE White film had plenty of laughs and memorable moments, with IGN's review of the film highlighting the family dynamics and chaotic fun. Season 3 promises to adapt some fan-favorite arcs from Tatsuya Endo's manga, including more of expert spy Loid Forger's backstory. Regardless of where the story goes, you can be sure there will be plenty of adorable Anya moments.
To Your Eternity Season 3
Premieres October 4
Get your tissues ready, because one of the most emotional anime in the past couple of years is back! The anime follows an orb that was cast onto Earth and must learn about humanity and its purpose, taking on different forms until he becomes a young boy named Fushi. The new season will pick up after the big battle in Renril, and see Fushi awaken in the modern world as he learns more about the goals of his creator.
Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill Season 2
Premieres October 7
There are many fantasy anime about being transported to another world, and many anime about cooking, but Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill manages to stand out by being a rather chill slice of life anime about companionship and how cooking brings people together. The show follows an office worker who is suddenly summoned to another world, one full of magical creatures, and he decides to use his great cooking skills to live life to its fullest, make friends, and create bizarre new recipes.
Gnosia
Premieres October 11
Adapted from the 2019 visual novel of the same name released on the PlayStation Vita, Gnosia is essentially Among Us, the anime (even if we are getting an Among Us cartoon). The show takes place on a ship that's drifting through space, where the crew becomes suspicious of each other after an alien creature known as Gnosia takes human form and starts attacking the crew. Paranoid, the crew starts voting on the most sus-looking person on the ship and putting them into cryosleep every day.
