The latest chapter of the anime series is adapting the Monster Association Arc from the manga written by ONE and illustrated by Yusuke Murata, with Season 3 Episode 2 ending on a tense cliffhanger.

But perhaps the biggest talking point surrounding One Punch Man right now is the animation. The new episodes are animated by J.C. Staff, which took over from Madhouse in 2016 for Season 2 onwards, and many fans have complained about a perceived dip in quality.

One Piece animator Vincent Chansard and Season 3 director Shinpei Nagai have defended the studio, while other fans have pointed out that it’s still got some great scenes. Whether you’re watching for the story or the memes, here’s when to catch Episode 3 as soon as it airs.

What happened in Season 3 Episode 2?

Episode 2, ‘Monster Traits’, opens with an injured Garou wandering into the city after leaving the Monster Association. As he helps a bullied kid, we see his inner conflict: he wants to be a monster, yet still acts in order to protect others.

Meanwhile, the monsters themselves escalate the tension: Gyoro-Gyoro explains how he sent King the Ripper and Bug God to test Garou, and reveals that Orochi was once human.

On the hero side, Saitama and Fubuki share a comedic restaurant scene that masks the growing crisis. With revelations about the Monster Association set to emerge and growing tension, One Punch Man fans are hoping the next installment will feature more action.

As for what to expect from Season 3 Episode 3, the synopsis reads, “Garou goes on the offensive against Kirisaki King and the Bug God, but a sludge jellyfish suddenly appears and takes Tareo hostage. Meanwhile, Professor Kuseno receives a distress call from Genos and visits Saitama.”
