Trey Parker and Matt Stone are back on track, with South Park Season 28 Episode 3 (or Season 27 Episode 8, depending on how you look at it) just around the corner. Be sure to check out the exact release date and times so you don’t miss a thing.
After settling the years-long bidding war, the South Park creators signed a deal with Paramount as its official home. As well as replacing previous streaming rights held by HBO Max in the US, the contract includes producing 10 new episodes per year for the next five years.
In other words, buckle up, Buckaroos – South Park isn’t going anywhere. Parker and Stone made the most of it with a truly explosive (and record-breaking) Season 27 premiere, featuring a rather graphic PSA involving the POTUS. And it’s been chaos ever since.
Following last month’s Halloween special, South Park is gearing up for its next episode, and it’s set to be another banger – here’s when and where to watch it.
South Park Season 28 Episode 3 will air on Wednesday, November 12 at 10pm ET/9pm CT on Comedy Central. It will then be available for streaming on Paramount Plus the following day, November 13, at 6am ET/3am PT.
Season 27 was initially reported to be 10 episodes long, meaning this upcoming episode would have been Episode 8 of the latest chapter. However, when the sixth new episode dropped on October 15, it was listed as Season 28 Episode 1.
A representative has since told The Hollywood Reporter that this was always the plan: to release Seasons 27 and 28 as five episodes each. Apparently, the fact that Season 27 was said to consist of 10 episodes was simply a mistake.
How many episodes are there?
Season 28 will consist of five episodes, so counting Season 27, we’ve had 10 new South Park episodes in total.
Parker, Stone, and their team create each episode on an ultra-fast turnaround timeframe, with each one written, animated, and voiced in just a matter of days. This allows the South Park team to respond in real time to current events.
It also means we don’t find out the plot or any other details until the last minute. However, the title and description for Season 28 Episode 3 has been released, which you can check out below alongside details for the other recent episodes:
- Season 27 Episode 1 – ’Sermon on the ‘Mount’
- “When the residents of South Park face their possible demise, Jesus returns to give them an important message.”
- Season 27 Episode 2 – ’Got a Nut’
- “When Mr. Mackey loses his job, he desperately tries to find a new way to make a living.”
- Season 27 Episode 3 – ’Sickofancy’
- “Towelie goes to Washington D.C.”
- Season 27 Episode 4 – ‘Wok is Dead’
- “Butters experiences the reality of tariffs in his attempts to buy his girlfriend a Labubu doll for her birthday.”
- Season 27 Episode 5 – ‘Conflict of Interest’
- “After discovering the whole school is using an odds app to bet on everything, and one of the bets is on whether his mum will bomb Gaza, Kyle goes on a mission to stop the app. Satan and Trump prepare for the arrival of their baby.”
- Season 28 Episode 1 – ’Twisted Christian’
- “Cartman is possessed and may be the key to stopping the Antichrist.”
- Season 28 Episode 2 – ’The Woman in the Hat’
- “The White House deals with a disruptive spirit from the east wing; Stan worries that South Park has become too political.”
- Season 28 Episode 3 – ’Sora Not Sorry’
- “Butters’ Al revenge plan backfires, igniting an epidemic of fake videos at school that leaves Detective Harris struggling to tell fantasy from reality.”
Why has South Park been delayed?
If Season 28 had stayed as Season 27 and followed its original release schedule, this week’s episode would have premiered on September 10. So, why is it now arriving later?
Well, back in July, after the first couple of Season 27 episodes had a two-week gap, the animated series switched to bi-weekly releases instead to give the creators more time (as said, each one is made on the fly so they can respond to current events).
The gap then got longer, with three weeks between Season 27 Episodes 4-5. A lot happened in the news cycle at that time, from Charlie Kirk’s death (which led to reruns of South Park’s Cartman Kirk episode being pulled from Comedy Central) to the controversial Jimmy Kimmel suspension.
Even though delays are common, there was speculation that the creators were facing censorship threats, especially after the Kimmel controversy, and the fact that the Paramount/Skydance merger required FCC approval.
But Stone confirmed to The Denver Post that there was no censorship involved. “No one pulled the episode, no one censored us, and you know we’d say so if true,” he explained. “We just didn’t get it done. When you always cut it close, sometimes you mess up. That’s the price of being a procrastinator.”
Full release schedule
Now, the series has switched back to two-week gaps, with the remaining Season 28 episodes to drop on these dates:
- Season 28 Episode 3 – November 12
- Season 28 Episode 4 – November 26
- Season 28 Episode 5 – December 10
What is the new South Park episode about?
Season 28 Episode 3 will see a shift away from the White House and back to South Park Elementary, where Butters has enacted an evil plan to use AI to make revenge porn.
“That’s going to totally backfire,” warns Kyle, to which Butters says, “Ah, what’s going to happen?” The next clip shows Butter has targeted Red after the Labubu incident, and her friends urge her to tell the principal.
The synopsis reads, “Butters’ Al revenge plan backfires, igniting an epidemic of fake videos at school that leaves Detective Harris struggling to tell fantasy from reality.”
Its title, ’Sora Not Sorry’, once again shows how on top of current events Parker and Stone are, as it comes just a few weeks after OpenAI’s Sora 2 was being used to create AI-generated South Park episodes.
Sora 2 essentially made it easy for fans to replicate copyrighted material, and OpenAI reportedly responded by banning users from generating South Park content.
But the series is set to parody the situation by having Butters using an AI generator to get revenge in one of the darkest ways possible.
The trailer has received plenty of comments, with some joking Butters has entered his “incel” era. “The rare moments Butters would deserve to get grounded,” said one.
“I honestly think Butters turned into an incel after Charlotte unfairly broke up with him in Season 20,” wrote another, while a third quipped, “He’s going to get the grounding of a lifetime after this.”
