Fallout Season 3 can’t come soon enough after the second season came to a shocking close with Lucy (Ella Purnell), Maximus (Aaron Moten), and the Ghoul (Walton Goggins) all facing new problems as chaos surrounds New Vegas from all sides. Spoilers ahead…

It’s been a long two months for Fallout fans as Prime Video switched things up to a weekly release model instead of the all-in-one binge drop of the first season. But it means audiences have been able to make the most of all the Easter eggs, the Deathclaw mystery, a major villain reveal and everything else that unfolds across the post-apocalyptic United States.

Ultimately, the second season ends with Lucy and Maximus waiting for the NCR and Caesar’s Legion to go to war (again) on the streets of Vegas, while the Ghoul heads off to Colorado to look for his family after finding the postcard left in his wife’s cryotube.

The show’s post-credits scene also revealed a shocking Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 reference which will see the Brotherhood of Steel’s own civil war escalating to new heights, as Elder Quintus (Michael Christofer) retrieved the blueprints for the giant robot: Liberty Prime Alpha. Thankfully, Fallout Season 3 might not be too far away.

At the time of writing, Fallout Season 3 does not have a release date. But don’t lose hope Wastelanders! There’s still some very positive news: The third season could return to our screens in 2027. According to industry outleti Production List, Fallout Season 3 will start filming in May 2026, meaning production would likely be finished by the end of the year.

This would give the producers and Prime Video time to finish the visual effects (and all the other post-production work) ahead of a potential 2027 release date. For context, Season 2 started filming in November 2024, and was released just over a year later. So Fallout Season 3 might return in June 2027 if it follows the same timeline.

Executive producer Jonathan Nolan told IGN: “With regards to production, we’re hoping to be shooting again next summer. We’ll see if that all comes together. Best laid plans and all.” He later added, “I think what’s happened with television in terms of, you know, taking longer and longer from season to season is an unfortunate trend. You don’t want the show to lose any of its scope, [so] we like to be back on the air as soon as we can.”

Who’s in the Fallout Season 3 cast?

For now, Prime Video hasn’t confirmed who’s in the Fallout Season 3 cast, but we can make some fairly educated guesses since the second season didn’t kill any of the main characters off. So it seems highly likely that Ella Purnell will reprise her role as Lucy MacLean, alongside Aaron Moten as Maximus, and Walton Goggins as the Ghoul/Cooper Howard.

Here’s who else we expect to be in the Fallout Season 3 cast.

  • Kyle MacLachlan as Hank MacLean
  • Johnny Pemberton as Thaddeus
  • Macaulay Culkin as Caesar
  • Justin Theroux as Robert House
  • Michael Christofer as Elder Quintus
  • Moisés Arias as Norm MacLean
  • Annabel O’Hagen as Stephanie Harper
  • Frances Turner as Barbara Howard
  • Leslie Uggams as Betty Pearson
  • Xelia Mendes-Jones as Dane
  • Dave Register as Chet

What will happen in Fallout Season 3?

It’s hard to predict what is going to happen in Fallout Season 3 because of just how big the franchise is, and it is telling its own story rather than adapting a specific game. But given where everyone ends up at the end of Season 2, it’s clear that Lucy, Maximus, and the Ghoul are going to have to deal with the Enclave more in future episodes.

The Enclave is the nefarious military group that secretly controlled the United States Government to plunge the world into a nuclear future so it could experiment with radiation and exert power using its creations. Overseer Stephanie Harper (Annabel O’Hagen) used an Enclave Pip-Boy to contact the group from Vault 32, telling them to initiate “Phase 2” — but it’s unclear what that means.

It’s possible that it relates to the secret Enclave sleeper agents that Hank MacLean (Kyle MacLachlan) was referring to, but the show did not reveal what they’re going to be used for. Aside from that, it’s obvious that the Ghoul’s journey to Colorado will further put him at odds against the Enclave as he tries to find his wife and daughter. Hopefully he’ll discover the reason why they left the Management Vault too…
