When is South Park Season 28 Episode 2 out? Delay & Halloween change explained

South Park has suddenly pivoted to Season 28, with Episode 2 (formerly Season 27 Episode 7) due to drop next. There’s been another delay, but there’s still not long to wait, so here are the details on how and when to watch it.

After the bidding war was finally settled, South Park found its home for the next five years in Paramount (meaning no more streaming on HBO Max). Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have been making the most of it, with a truly explosive Season 27.

So far, we’ve seen Randy turn into a ket-sniffing tech bro, Kristi Noem shooting Krypto the dog, FCC chairman Brendan Carr losing his freedom of speech, and the actual US president impregnating Satan with a “butt baby.”

And there’s plenty more where that came from. The bad news is, there’s been a slight delay, but the good news is, it’s not another week-long wait.

South Park Season 28 Episode 2 will now air on Friday, October 31, 2025 at 10pm ET/9pm CT on Comedy Central. If it follows the same schedule, it should then be available for streaming on Paramount+ on Saturday, November 1 at 6am ET/5am CT.

In its place, Comedy Central is hosting a full day of reruns, including last week’s Season 28 Episode 1, ‘Twisted Chrisrian.’ Then, at 10.30pm ET, Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head Season 3 Episode 9 airs, followed by The Daily Show at 11pm ET.

If Season 28 had stayed as Season 27 (more on this shortly) and followed its original release schedule, this week’s episode would have premiered on September 3. And if it had followed its updated timetable, it would’ve dropped on October 29. So, why is it now arriving later?

Season 28 Episode 2 delay explained

The reason for the delay is two-fold: the first is that Season 28 Episode 2 is going to be a Halloween special, and so Stone and Parker have decided to drop it on Halloween night instead of its usual Wednesday evening slot.

The second is the same as the previous delays: the creators simply need more time to make the show as good as it needs to be. Even though Season 27 was originally due to follow a weekly release schedule, this was wishful thinking on all sides.

The long-running animated series is made on an ultra-fast turnaround timeframe, with episodes written, animated, and voiced in just a matter of days. This allows the South Park team to respond in real time to current events, but it also means delays aren’t unusual.

Back in July, after the first couple of Season 27 episodes had a two-week gap, an insider told Deadline, “What they’re doing means this year’s episodes need more time than usual to put together, to finish.

“So much happens right now in just one day with Trump. No one’s going to sacrifice getting it right, even if we have to push getting it to air, and if that makes the season longer, so be it.”

A Skydance Paramount source added, “We’re not going to argue with what’s working. The numbers are great, the show is getting a lot of attention – if they want to give us a 20-week season for 10-episodes, that’s OK.”

The gap then got longer, with three weeks between Episodes 4-5. A lot happened in the news cycle at that time, from Charlie Kirk’s death (which led to reruns of South Park’s Cartman Kirk episode being pulled from Comedy Central) to the controversial Jimmy Kimmel suspension.

As such, South Park fans were on tenterhooks in September when Episode 5 was due to land. However, at the last minute, the following announcement was made: “South Park to continue on Wednesday, September 24th at 10pm ET/PT On Comedy Central.”

Parker and Stone also issued the following statement: “Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you don’t get it done. This one’s on us. We didn’t get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central and South Park fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week!”

Even though delays are common, there was speculation that the creators were facing censorship threats, especially after the Kimmel controversy, and the fact that the Paramount/Skydance merger required FCC approval.

But Stone confirmed to The Denver Post that there was no censorship involved. “No one pulled the episode, no one censored us, and you know we’d say so if true,” he explained. “We just didn’t get it done. When you always cut it close, sometimes you mess up. That’s the price of being a procrastinator.”

Now, the series is switching back to two-week gaps, but with the latest episode, there’s the added two-day wait due to Halloween.

The switch from Season 27 to Season 28 explained

Now, this one’s a little confusing. You see, last week’s episode was supposed to be Season 27 Episode 6, but instead it’s officially listed as Season 28 Episode 1. A representative has since told The Hollywood Reporter that this was always the plan: to release Seasons 27 and 28 as five episodes each.

Apparently, the fact that Season 27 was widely reported to consist of 10 episodes was simply a mistake. This still doesn’t explain why, especially since the narrative threads from Season 27 still haven’t been wrapped up: the antichrist is still brewing and Towelie’s yet to escape from the White House.

That being said, Season 28 Episode 1 does end on a cliffhanger. The antichrist theme carries over, with Peter Thiel now believing Cartman may be the antidote. Meanwhile, Jesus turns to the dark side by becoming a Christian bro.

So, the only question remaining is why Season 27 ended where it did. Some fans have a rather hilarious theory: it’s a nod to the bizarre ‘6-7’ trend that was referenced in last week’s episode.

After all, Season 28 Episodes 1-2 would have been Season 27 Episodes 6-7… maybe it’s just an elaborate prank? Taking to Reddit, one wrote, “THE TWO PARTER WILL GO ACROSS THE 6TH AND 7TH EPISODES,” to which another replied, “So that is why they are calling it Season 28.”

This is all just speculation at this stage, but given Parker and Stone are master trolls, it wouldn’t be all that surprising.

What is the new South Park episode about?

Season 28 Episode 2 will be a Halloween special, but it will also follow up on plots set up in recent episodes. Comedy Central revealed that it will be titled ‘The Woman in the Hat’, and will focus on Trump‘s demolition of the East Wing of the White House last week.

As per the logline (via Deadline): “The White House deals with a disruptive spirit from the East Wing. While Stan worries that South Park has become too political.”

Then, on October 29, South Park dropped a trailer, which promises plenty of mayhem, kicking off with a seance at the White House, featuring Brendan Carr, JD Vance, Kristi Noem, Donald Trump, and Donald Trump Jr.

The clip cuts to Randy explaining to Stan that they’re now broke and so they’re moving in with his dad – yes, ol’ Grandpa Marsh is back and he’s angrier than ever. Then, we head back to the White House, where an examination of a “rectoplasm” sample reveals it is “54% Filet-O-Fish sandwich” (seemingly a reference to Trump’s favorite McDonald’s order).

Finally, and this one’s going to hurt, Trump absolutely defiles Towelie – he’s not escaping anytime soon. Taking to the comments section, one fan wrote, “They did Towelie dirty, quite literally.”

“Towelie just had a good old fashion flossing,” said another, while a third added, “WTF Matt and Trey!? Why would you do that to poor Towlie?”
