James Cameron’s third Avatar movie has already raked in over $1 billion at the global box office, and fans are understandably desperate to know when Avatar: Fire and Ash will release on Disney+.

The sequel sees an all-out war explode across Pandora as the Resources Development Administration starts to use unconventional tactics in attacking Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his family who are defending the planet from being colonized. Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang) partners with Varang (Oona Chaplin), the leader of the Ash people, to use their ruthless, fiery nature against the rest of the Na’vi.

Sigourney Weaver previously told Dexerto that Avatar 4 and 5 are “up in the air,” but now that the third film has crossed that all-important billion dollar benchmark, the future sequels might not be out of the realm of possibility.

However, until 20th Century Studios and Disney confirm the future of Cameron’s science-fiction epic, fans will just have to make do with watching the film at home when it’s eventually released on physical media and streaming. So, here’s when to expect Avatar: Fire and Ash on Disney+.

When is Avatar: Fire and Ash on Disney Plus?

Avatar: Fire and Ash should be released on Disney+ between April and June 2026. Although Disney hasn’t announced its streaming debut yet, the studio typically waits around three or four months to release its latest blockbusters onto the platform. For example, Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps was released in July 2025, and arrived on Disney+ in November later in the year.

Ironically, the exception to this model is Cameron’s previous movie: Avatar: The Way of Water. Disney waited almost six months before putting the sequel onto streaming, but this was because the sequel had an extended theatrical run due to the huge financial success it had at the time. Remember, there were 13 years between the first Avatar movie and The Way of Water in 2022.

Although Avatar: Fire and Ash is doing well at the box office, it isn’t performing in the same way as the previous movie. We’ll keep you posted when Disney+ reveals an official streaming release date.

How to watch Avatar: Fire and Ash

Avatar: Fire and Ash was released in theaters on December 19, meaning audiences can still go see it on the biggest screens possible in the way that Cameron intended.

While the sequel has been met with middling reviews, earning itself a 60% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, most praised the visuals and effects used throughout the film, meaning it at least delivers a visual spectacle, even if some audiences aren’t as impressed by the story.
