Prince Daeron Targaryen is no longer missing – the youngest child of Queen Alicent Hightower and King Viserys I Targaryen is set to make his debut in House of the Dragon Season 3, with young actor Charlie Gordon reportedly bagging the role.
At the end of Season 2 of the Game of Thrones spinoff, tensions between the Greens and Blacks boiled over. Blood was shed on both sides, with the brutal fallout from Rook’s Rest and the siege of Harrenhal setting up a full-scale war in Season 3.
While Daeron doesn’t appear on screen in the first two chapters, he is mentioned by name, confirming he’s alive and well in Oldtown. Daeron rides the dragon Tessarion and fights for the Greens in the Dance of the Dragons, making him a crucial character.
Until now, the writers simply hadn’t found a way to physically include him in the storyline, but according to the House the Dragons account, this is all set to change.
Who is Charlie Gordon?
Charlie is a 17-year-old from the UK. Although relatively new to the acting world, he’s appeared in the TV series Virtual Insanity and Matilda: The Musical.
As per his Backstage profile, “I am 17 years old and am a passionate, hard working, and dedicated actor, dancer, singer, and multi instrumentalist. My credits include Matilda the Musical feature film for Netflix and Katie Travis in School of Rock at the Gillian Lynne Theatre.”
You can follow Charlie on Instagram, where he shares updates on his acting journey as well as his transition. Back in 2023, he wrote, “Hello there, my name is Charlie Eliot Gordon! It is officially CHANGED!” More recently, Charlie revealed his gender is now listed as male on his passport.
As highlighted by Westerosies, “As Prince Daeron Targaryen, Charlie Gordon becomes the first trans man to play a leading character in HBO’s Game of Thrones Universe. Remember to fill the actor with love and encouragement on his new role!”
It’s worth noting that HBO is yet to confirm the casting. The news came from the House the Dragons fan account, which shared a set video alongside the caption, “First images of Daeron Targaryen and Ormund Hightower in House of the Dragon Season 3…
“In today’s filming, Charlie Gordon, James Norton, and Matt Smith shot a scene together, directed by Clare Kilner (Episodes 2, 3, and 4).”
In a separate tweet, it wrote, “Actor Charlie Gordon has been cast as Prince Daeron Targaryen, also known as the Daring, in Season 3 of House of the Dragon, according to our sources.
“Daeron is the rider of Tessarion, the Blue Queen, and the youngest son of King Viserys I and Queen Alicent Hightower.”
House of the Dragon fans excited about Daeron casting
Despite it yet to be officially announced, the news has been met with a positive response, with many pointing out Charlie’s physical features matching the description of Daeron.
“Let it be known I will be defending Charlie with my LIFE. He is literally the most perfect Daeron ever, don’t play with me,” said one.
“He and Aemond could legitimately be brothers, stellar casting,” said another, while a third added, “Oh my gosh he looks so much like Ewan! This is really great, can’t wait to see him on screen.”
A fourth chimed in, “The actor for Daeron is perfect and I can’t wait to see Charlie in action, best of luck to them, so cute.”
