Flossie is a British domestic short-haired tortoiseshell cat who holds the Guinness World Record for the oldest living cat. Born on December 29, 1995, she officially turned 30 years old in 2025.
Her age was verified by Guinness World Records in November 2022, when Flossie was confirmed to be 26 years and 316 days old. The recognition placed her among the oldest cats ever recorded, with her age equivalent to roughly 120 human years at the time.
How Flossie became the world’s oldest living cat
Flossie was rescued as a kitten from a feral colony near St Helens Hospital in Merseyside, England. Over the years, she lived with several owners before being taken in by the UK animal charity Cats Protection.
In 2022, Cats Protection arranged her adoption with Victoria Green, who lives in Orpington, England. The charity worked with veterinarians to verify Flossie’s date of birth, allowing Guinness World Records to officially certify her age.
At the time of her record confirmation, Guinness World Records noted that Flossie was deaf and had limited eyesight, but was otherwise in good health. She maintained a daily routine that included eating, sleeping, and playing.
Flossie is currently recognized as the oldest living cat in the world. She is also one of the seven oldest verified cats in recorded history.
While other cats, including Creme Puff, have lived longer in the past, Flossie remains the oldest confirmed cat alive today. Her 30th birthday on December 29 further extends her record as the longest-living feline currently documented by Guinness World Records.
