Sebastian Stan has reportedly been cast in The Batman Part 2 alongside Robert Pattinson, Scarlett Johansson, Andy Serkis, and Jeffrey Wright. This will make the star one of the few actors who have starred in both Marvel and DC projects, since he’s best known for playing Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But the question remains, who might Stan play in The Batman Part 2?
It’s been four years since Matt Reeves’ first movie flew into theaters and delivered a modern gothic tale of a younger, more ferocious version of Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) who untangles a conspiracy of corruption and deceit that ties the Riddler (Paul Dano) to his own family legacy.
Fans have been desperate for a sequel for years, and many were frustrated about the fact that The Batman Part 2 was delayed until 2027. It got to the point where DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn had to tell fans to stop harassing Reeves about what was happening with the second film.
But thankfully, the sequel has made some promising moves forward in recent months, with news of Johansson’s casting surfacing online back in early December. But now fans are questioning who Stan could be playing in The Batman Part 2, and one scooper may have already revealed his role.
Who Sebastian Stan might be playing in The Batman 2
Jeff Sneider reported on January 6 that Sebastian Stan is playing Harvey Dent/Two-Face in The Batman Part 2. Considering how much of Reeves’ take on Gotham City is inspired by The Long Halloween comic storyline by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, it makes sense that Dent would be in the film. The 1996 comics introduce Two-Face’s origin story when Sal Maroni throws acid at Dent’s face in court.
Reeves is keeping The Batman 2 plot under lock and key for now, but it seems likely that if Stan is playing Dent, then he could be in for a grisly transformation as part of the role. The more pressing question is how Reeves and writer Mattson Tomlin will make the second movie feel completely different to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, which was also inspired by The Long Halloween.
The 2008 film also introduced Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, although his origin was slightly different. He suffers horrific facial burns when half of his face is covered in gasoline when the Joker kidnaps him and explosives go off.
If reports are to be believed, then Stan isn’t the only villain in the film, as Sneider claims that Barry Keoghan is also set to reprise his role as the Joker in the sequel, although it’s unclear whether he’ll still be locked up in Arkham or if he’ll break free to cause chaos in Gotham.
