The Last of Us Season 3 will look slightly different to Season 2, with actor Danny Ramirez departing, and his character being recast – here’s why.
It’s all-change on the TV adaptation of The Last of Us. Where Ellie (Bella Ramsey) was protagonist for Seasons 1 and 2, Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) will take center stage in Season 3, with previous events viewed from her perspective.
Neil Druckmann is also stepping back from writing and directing duties on the forthcoming season, though the co-creator will continue to executive produce.
While now an actor is dropping out, with Danny Ramirez no longer playing Manny Alvarez.
Danny Ramirez will be replaced in The Last of Us Season 3
Danny Ramirez has dropped out of The Last of Us Season 3 due to scheduling conflicts.
Ramirez is best known for playing Joaquin Torres – aka Falcon – in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Captain America: Brave New World.
His character Manny Alvarez was introduced in Season 2 of The Last of Us as a vengeful member of Abby’s Firefly crew. With that group playing a more prominent role in Season 2, Deadline reports that Alvarez will be recast for the forthcoming episodes.
As for what “scheduling conflicts” means exactly, that could be connected to Ramirez’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’ll next be seen in Avengers: Doomsday – which hits screens on December 18, 2026 – and with Avengers: Secret Wars following in 2027, and more MCU movies to follow, the actor could be tied up with superhero work for the foreseeable future.
While in terms of what to expect from The Last of Us Season 3, co-creator Craig Mazin previously told Deadline: “What is going on? How did that war start? Why? How did the Seraphites start? Who is the prophet? What happened to her? What does Isaac want? What’s happening at the end of Episode 7? What is this explosion? What is all of it?”
