James Gunn has been spilling beans about the Peacemaker Season 2 finale, revealing that he spoke to Ryan Reynolds about a Deadpool cameo, before ultimately giving up on that plan. SPOILERS ahead…
The final episode of Peacemaker Season 2 was packed with comedy, action, tragedy, and even a spot of romance, thanks to Chris Smith and Emilia Harcourt finally admitting their feelings for each other.
The show nearly got a happy ending through the 11th Street Kids creating their own agency to make the world better a better place. But then it quickly turned dark, thanks to Peacemaker being kidnapped by Rick Flagg Sr., and banished to a planet prison called Salvation.
The search for that planet resulted in a violent and hilarious Imp attack, while it also nearly featured a major Marvel cameo.
Deadpool dropped from Peacemaker due to hoops James Gunn had to jump through
During that sequence, A.R.G.U.S. agents open doors in the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, in the hopes that they will find somewhere uninhabited where it’s safe to breath on the other side.
They encounter the aforementioned Imps, as well as some Marvel Zombies, but in a new interview with Variety, Peacemaker showrunner James Gunn reveals that they also planned for Harcourt and co to bump into the ‘Merc with a Mouth.’
“I wanted them to open the door and see Deadpool in a room,” Gunn explains. “I talked to Ryan Reynolds about it. But I would’ve had to go through some pretty, pretty big hoops to do that. He wanted to do it!”
Those “hoops” being that Peacemaker is in the DC Universe and Deadpool is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Gunn then panics about how that news will be received, adding: “Oh, that’s all anybody’s gonna talk about now, is fucking Deadpool in the other room. I should’ve never said it!”
