Peacemaker Season 2 has delivered action, drama, romance, and laughs in a story of family lost and found, but here’s why there isn’t an Episode 9 this week.
The second season of Peacemaker has been as good, if not better, than Season 1. The plot saw Christopher Smith stumbling onto Earth X, where his father and brother are still alive, but living in a Nazi state.
The season featured Lex Luthor (though no Deadpool cameo), and the introduction of prison planet Salvation, which sets up next Superman movie Man of Tomorrow, as well as the future of the DCU.
But there won’t be an Episode 9 of Season 2 this week, for one very good reason.
Is there a Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 9?
No, there isn’t a Peaceamaker Season 2 Episode 9 airing this week. That’s because the season concluded with Episode 8, which was titled ‘Full Nelson.’
The finale was certainly eventful, featuring a violent callback to an Imp anecdote from Episode 1, and the inclusion of a storyline that started with Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.
Chris Smith and Emilia Harcourt also finally proclaimed their love for each other, while the 11th Street Kids set up their own agency to protect the planet; storylines that suggested the episode would end on an upbeat note.
But then Peacemaker got kidnapped and abandoned on Salvation, with no hope of escape, which concluded Season 2 on something of a cliffhanger.
Will there be a Season 3?
There are currently no plans for Peacemaker Season 3, though Chris Smith will be heavily involved elsewhere in the DC universe.
“This is about the wider DCU and other stories in which this will play out right now,” writer-director James Gunn told Deadline when asked about the potential for Season 3. “That doesn’t mean that there won’t be. I don’t want to never say never, but right now, no, this is about the future of the DCU. It’s an important character.”
When asked about Peacemaker’s role moving forward, Gunn added: “He’s important. He’s really important to me. Peacemaker is an important character.
“I said from the beginning when we took on this job, it’s about really propping up and maintaining and repositioning the big diamond properties that DC has, the Batmans and Wonder Womans and Supermans, and then creating diamond properties out of the smaller characters like Peacemaker.”
There’s no word yet if Smith will appear in the next DC movie – Supergirl – but with Lex Luthor and Rick Flag Sr. confirmed for Man of Tomorrow, expect Peacemaker’s Salvation sub-plot to play into proceedings.
