The Stranger Things Season 5 premiere featured stars from the show walking the red carpet in LA, and one appearance has sparked a terrifying Vecna theory.
Yesterday was ‘Stranger Things Day,’ with November 6 the anniversary of when Will Byers went missing in 1983.
To celebrate, Netflix dropped the first five minutes of Season 5 online, which answers a question that fans have had since Season 1.
While there was also a premiere in Los Angeles, during which Episode 1 of Stranger Things Season 5 screened, and stars of the show dropped by and had fans of the show theorizing.
Is Vecna building an army of the dead?
Barbara Holland actress Shannon Purser appeared on the red carpet during the Stranger Things 5 premiere, sparking speculation that her character will be working for Vecna during the finale.
Barb famously died during Season 1 of Stranger Things, with her grim fate sparking the ‘Justice for Barb’ movement.
The character’s body will apparently be seen during Season 5, but Purser’s appearance at the premiere has fans wondering if she’ll play a more prominent role in the climactic episodes.
“All the others who died by Vecna/in the Upside Down are going to resurrect as Vecna’s foot soldiers,” one Redditor speculated. “Basically just dead corpses with the hive mind controlling them to do Vecna’s bidding sort of like as we saw with Billy…. but more dead.”
Another commented: “Thats what I’m thinking. For such a big show, they’ll most definitely make it have a happy, feel good ending. I’m expecting not too many major deaths.”
I think it’s possible we see goodbye versions to all the characters of significance in some way,” added a third.
If the ‘army of the dead’ theory is connect, we could also see the return of Bob, Billy, Alexei, and fan-favorite Eddie Munson, though it should be noted that none of the actors who play those characters were at the event.
Fans could also be reading too much into Purser’s appearance, with one writing that her presence is pretty standard for such events: “It’s the final season, so original cast members will be present at the premiere.”
But if the fans are right, we could be seeing a wrap-up comparable to one of the biggest movies of all time, as one commentator suggests: “All of them are going to re-appear in an Avenger style portal final showdown aren’t they?”
