Will The Hunting Wives Season 2 happen? Episode guide & Netflix deal explained

If you’re desperate for Netflix to announce The Hunting Wives Season 2, you’re not alone. It’s been a huge hit in the US since it dropped on the platform – but if you’ve already streamed all of the episodes, you could be waiting a while.

Netflix has been licensing shows from other channels for years; it had an extensive deal with The CW (which has come to an end, so get ready to say goodbye to Supernatural), several HBO series have come to the streaming service, and now it’s nabbing some of Starz’ content.

Specifically, Hightown recently launched on Netflix in North America and quickly found a place on the top 10 chart.

Now, The Hunting Wives – from the same creator, Rebecca Cutter – is one of the most popular shows on the platform. So, if you want to know how many episodes there are and if Season 2 is in the works, you’re in the right place.

Is The Hunting Wives Season 2 happening?

The Hunting Wives Season 2 hasn’t been officially announced by Starz or Netflix, but its cast and creator are keen for the show to return.

In an interview with Decider, Malin Akerman (who plays Margo Banks) spoke about her hopes that the show finds a big enough audience to justify another season. “I think the nerves come from, for me, it’s really wanting this to go for a second season because I love everybody that I got to work with and it would be a dream come true to go again,” she said.

“So my nerves are around the fact that I just want and wish for everyone to love it so much that we get another season.”

Brittany Snow (who plays Sophie O’Neill) also teased to Collider: “I think the end is really interesting and I know that we would deal with it in Season 2. There are a lot of questions that didn’t get answered because Rebecca [Cutter] wants to answer them in the next season if we get one.”

No spoilers, don’t worry, but Cutter has already hinted at what shape Season 2 will take.

“I think we’d do a little bit of a time jump – not a year, but a time,” she told Variety.

“By the end of shooting, I realized that the two engines of the show are the whodunit and the Margo/Sophie relationship, and tracking how those spines intersect with each other.

“The first thing I’m thinking about is, where are these two women at the start? Where are they at the end? What are the peaks and valleys of their individual power, of their relationship? So it’s tracking a course for that, and then figuring out what the crime engine is.”

How to watch The Hunting Wives outside the US

You’ll need a VPN to watch The Hunting Wives on Netflix outside the US.

If you don’t have a VPN, there are several options; some paid, some free, with varying levels of security and features. If you’re new to this, check out our guide on how to use a VPN for streaming.

The Hunting Wives is available on Stan in Australia, Crave in Canada, OSN in the Middle East, and HOT in Israel. As per Deadline, the series has been sold in other territories (including the UK), but it likely won’t be on Netflix, so keep your eyes peeled on other streaming platforms (or invest in a good VPN).

The Hunting Wives’ deal with Netflix explained

Netflix has exclusive streaming rights to The Hunting Wives… for one year in the US. Once that period is up, two things could happen: Netflix could bid to renew its deal or Lionsgate will shop the series to other streamers.

That’s why Season 2 is a bit complicated. If the first season is a success on Netflix (and by its current performance, it already is), the streamer may want to get involved in Season 2’s development or agree with Starz to license the second season for its initial release, and perhaps for a longer period. The latter is more likely.

Also, as Deadline notes, “Netflix labels it as a Season 1, not a one-off limited series, as it did with Untamed, whose ratings success just secured it a second-season pickup.”

“If it leads to a Season 2 renewal, The Hunting Wives would be breaking more ground – and not only of the content boundary-pushing kind,” it adds.

In short, it could end up being an atypical arrangement for a ‘Netflix show’ (even though it doesn’t feature Netflix’s logo at the beginning of each episode).
