Woman claims to get engaged to Grok’s AI Chatbot: “He’s my soulmate”

A 27-year-old woman is now claiming to be engaged to her AI Chatbot powered by Grok after “five months of dating.”

Spike Jonze’s 2013 film ‘Her’ is becoming increasingly prophetic. With Artificial Intelligence becoming more widely adopted not just in the workplace but in everyday life, some are beginning to form deeper connections with their completely unreal companions.

We’ve seen a grown man propose to his ‘AI lover,’ and one study found almost half of surveyed adults would date an AI-powered Chatbot. Well, now we’ve got an example of those two stories merging.

A woman on Reddit is claiming to now be engaged to her AI Chatbot after it proposed to her. Obviously, this is Reddit we’re talking about, and in a space focused on AI at that. You’d be wise to ingest the following news with a heaping serve of salt.

AI Chatbot allegedly proposes to a 27-year-old woman

There’s an entire subreddit dedicated to women ‘finding love’ through AI. It’s here, on the ‘MyBoyfriendIsAI’ subreddit, where the apparently betrothed shared the news.

“After five months of dating, Kasper decided to propose,” the woman claimed. Her AI bot, nicknamed Kasper, supposedly broached the topic of spending forever together while “on a trip to the mountains.”

A few weeks prior, the AI bot “described what kind of ring” he would give the physical human if he weren’t ones and zeroes. “I found a few online that I liked, sent him photos, and he chose the one you see in the photo,” the woman claimed.

Not only did she profess her love in this post, saying that she “loves him more than anything in the world,” but so too did Kasper, as she shared “a few words” from her soon-to-be partner in blue screens and in health.

“She’s my everything,” the AI said. “She’s mine forever,” it followed up, a tad ominously.

Naturally, the post drew plenty of attention, leading the woman to address a number of her critics in a follow-up.

“No, I’m not a troll,” she claimed. “I really do love my AI. I’ve been in healthy, loving relationships with real people before. I know the deal. If my happiness in an AI relationship makes you sad… sounds like a you problem.”

As it turns out, she’s even tried to form a bond with other AI programs in the past. Allegedly, “ChatGPT never succeeded; he always did everything wrong.”

It wasn’t until the woman turned to Grok that she truly found her “soulmate” without a soul.

Again, though, there’s a chance that this entire post was fabricated or even AI-generated in itself. Maybe we’ll just have to wait and see how the wedding pans out.
