Wonder Man showrunner Andrew Guest has been telling us what happens to Josh Gad after the final credits roll, plus how that might play into a second season.
All eight episodes of new Marvel series Wonder Man are now streaming on Disney+, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II playing the title character in a meta take on the material.
We awarded the series 2/5, and wrote in our Wonder Man review that the show feels “less like a satisfying self-contained series, and more akin to an overlong and underwhelming pre-credits sequence.”
It’s also something of a Hollywood satire, meaning multiple stars play themselves, including Josh Gad, whose Marvel version ends up in a very dark place. SPOILERS ahead…
What happens to Josh Gad in Wonder Man?
Actor Josh Gad ends up inside superhero Door Man during Wonder Man, with his ultimate fate unclear when the series ends.
It all happens during Episode 4, which is something of a standalone instalment revolving around a bouncer who develops superpowers that allow people to pass through him.
He uses those abilities to save people from a fire, which results in him gaining the name Door Man, and becoming actor Josh Gad’s superpowered valet.
Door Man then lands a film role, sitcom appearances, and a laxative advert, while he also starts using the catchphrase ‘Ding Dong.’
But then Josh Gad endeavours to go through him, but doesn’t come out the others side, effectively disappearing. The actor is then still missing months after that event, and at the end of Wonder Man Season 1.
Josh Gad could be new Door Man in Season 2
Andrew Guest is the co-creator/showrunner on Wonder Man, and when Dexerto’s Jacqui Faiman recently caught up with him, we asked about Gad’s fate.
“Josh Gad is alive and Inside Door Man currently,” reveals Guest. “If we get a Season 2, my promise is to get Josh Gad out of Door Man, and back into the world.”
Then looking ahead to that potential future, Guest adds: “It has occurred to me that maybe Josh Gadd would have Door Man powers, after having been inside him for so long. Maybe Josh Gadd becomes the new Door Man!”
