World champion skateboarder Sandro Dias has set two new records after completing the world’s highest skateboard drop in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

The 50-year-old descended from the side of the Centro Administrativo Fernando Ferrari government building, riding down a specially constructed curved ramp. The drop measured 70 meters, with officials from Guinness World Records present to verify the attempt.

The ramp was built using plywood panels to fit the building’s architecture, with air fences installed at the bottom to help Dias land safely. He wore protective gear, including a spine protector and custom equipment from Prada Linea Rossa.

He also broke the skateboard speed record, having gone 95kph, or about 59mph, down the ramp during the 65m drop from the side of the building.

The record-breaking stunt was streamed live on Red Bull TV and Red Bull’s YouTube channel.

Skateboarding legend

Dias, known as the “King of the 540,” has previously landed a 900 in competition and was the first Brazilian skater to complete the trick. In 2019, he successfully dropped 30 meters from the Estaiadinha Bridge in São Paulo.

Alongside his professional career, Dias also runs the Sandro Dias Institute, which promotes skateboarding access for young people in vulnerable situations.
