WWE 2K26 is reportedly adding four new match types in this year’s installment, including the return of two fan favorites not seen for 13 years.

The annual WWE video game is circled on every wrestling fan’s calendar, and this year’s is no exception. While earlier reports indicated that CM Punk will be the 2026’s featured superstar with his own Showcase mode, the base game is also getting some upgrades.

For many players, one of the best additions with new titles is the introduction of new match types. Given that there are so many different modes throughout wresting history, it’s hard to include every single one, especially as the engine gets upgraded, but this year’s should make a lot of players quite excited.

As reported by Insider-Gaming, WWE 2K26 will include four new match types, and one is a bit surprising how long it took to be reintroduced.

WWE 2K26 to include I Quit, 3 Stages of Hell, Inferno and Dumpster matches

According to the report, one of the modes has been in development for quite awhile. Although it’s not clear which one that is, there are two big possibilities.

The first is the revamped I Quit match, last seen in WWE 2K14. This match involves inflicting enough damage on an opponent that they’re forced to say “I Quit” – submissions alone aren’t good enough.

Making this match different from a typical submission match could be why it took so long, as it plays more into the mental and psychological side of pro-wrestling.

Also returning after 13 years is the Inferno Match, which features a ring literally on fire. As players perform stronger moves, the flames get bigger, and the only way to win is to set your opponent ablaze.

The only new match type is the Dumpster Match. As you might expect, this will likely involve putting your opponent into a Dumpster in order to win, similar to a Casket or Ambulance match.

Finally, we have the 3 Stages of Hell match. This mode is really straightforward. It’s essentially a 2 out of 3 falls match with each of the 3 falls being a different match type, such as No Disqualification, Tables, Steel Cage, or even the three aforementioned match types.

Expect more details to be revealed in the weeks ahead as part of the build-up towards WrestleMania 42.
