Wyatt Russell is done with people asking him to play characters originated by his dad Kurt Russell, which is why he has no intention of playing an elderly Snake Plisskin.

Wyatt Russell’s Hollywood career began with uncredited roles in his dad Kurt Russell’s movies, including Overboard, Escape From LA, and Soldier.

He’s since carved out his own career independently, and is probably now best known for playing John Walker in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Thunderbolts*, and the forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

But right now Russell can be seen playing the same character as his dad in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV, which has prompted fans to ask if he’d star in sequels or remakes of his father’s classics.

Wyatt Russell is too old for Escape From New York

While reading comments underneath the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 trailer, the subject of Wyatt Russell playing Snake Plisskin in an Escape From New York remake or sequel comes up.

“This is my favourite part about everybody now,” says Russell of the suggestion. “There’s always like ‘you should do this – a younger version of him’ and I’m older than my dad, by like 10 years, when he did Snake Plisskin the first time.

“Thank you for thinking that I’m 27 years old, but I’m almost 40. I feel like a geriatric version of Snake Plisskin at this point, so it’s not gonna happen.”

No interest in The Thing or Big Trouble in Little China sequels

As for the concept of Russel doing new versions of The Thing or Big Trouble in Little China, he can understand the interest, but is dead against the idea.

“Why wouldn’t it be fun to think about that, because they were great movies!” says Russell. “The problem with those – for me – just from my perspective is that John Carpenter and Kurt Russell and Dean Cundy – they created those movies out of thin air.

“They’re not like IP… They’re unique and they’re so special. Kurt Russell made Jack Burton – it’s so specific to him. I think it’s a bad idea for anyone to do it… specifically me… I don’t think those type of movies are ever remade particularly well.”
