A game developer from Virtuos has shared their thought on the Nintendo Switch 2 and says “any” Xbox Series S game should be ported to the hybrid console.

When Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 back in April, many were left wondering how powerful the next-gen hybrid console would actually be.

Many say it’s about as fast as the PlayStation 4, but others believe it’s closer to the Xbox Series S in real-world testing thanks to the use of Nvidia’s DLSS frame generation.

One developer shared his thoughts about the Switch 2 in an interview with wccftech on July 7, and explained how it could handle Xbox Series S games.

“Any” Xbox Series S game can be ported to Switch 2

According to Eoin O’Grady, the technical director at Virtuos-owned Black Shamrock, the games running at 60fps on the Xbox Series S shouldn’t be hard to port over to the Switch 2.

The graphics card in Nintendo’s new handheld performs “slightly below” the Series S, he says, but the Xbox doesn’t support DLSS, which uses AI to boost game performance. Since the Switch 2 does, it makes the GPU more comparable between the two game consoles.

As for its processor, however, O’Grady says the hybrid console is closer to the PlayStation 4. Regardless of the CPU difference, the developer still says Series S games could be ported to the Switch 2.

“Any game shipping at 60 FPS on the Series S should easily port to the Switch 2. Likewise, a 30 FPS Series S game that’s GPU-bound should also port well. Games with complex physics, animations, or other CPU-intensive elements might incur additional challenges in reaching 30 or 60 FPS or require extra optimization during porting,” they told wccftech.

Black Shamrock has worked on a handful of games that could be ported over to the Switch 2, including Marvel’s Midnight Suns, The Outer Worlds, and even the Xbox hit Grounded.
