Xbox has just announced that it’s officially working on its next-gen consoles five years after the Series S|X release.

The Series S|X consoles were released back in November 2020, and since then, they have taken over the industry thanks to their ever-popular Game Pass subscription.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting Xbox to announce that it’s working on next-gen consoles, and on Tuesday, June 17, they did just that.

Revealed in a video on X, the Microsoft-owned company is working on next-gen devices and cloud services, including a new Xbox console and the previously announced ROG Xbox Ally handheld.

Xbox confirms next-gen console is underway

“At Xbox, our vision is for you to play the games you want, with the people you want, anywhere you want,” said Xbox President Sarah Bond. “That’s why we’re investing in our next-generation hardware lineup across console, handheld, PC, cloud, and accessories.”

Bond also shared that they have formed a multi-year partnership with AMD to power these new devices, “including our next-generation Xbox consoles.”

“Together with AMD we’re advancing the state of the art in gaming silicon to deliver the next-generation of graphics innovation to unlock a deeper level of visual quality, immersive gameplay, and player experiences enhanced with the power of AI,” Bond added.

They’re working to deliver an Xbox experience that is “not locked to a single store” or “tied to one device” as well, but despite rumors of them adding the Steam store to the next-gen Xbox, Bond is more than likely referencing Xbox Play Anywhere – a service they offer that allows you to play games across both console and PC.

We’ll have to wait for Xbox to actually announce the new console, but for now, fans can check out the ROG Xbox Ally handheld being made in collab with Asus that is set to release later in 2025.
