MrBeast’s record-breaking charity stream on Kick raised millions of dollars, but xQc has now admitted that he felt uneasy with how the broadcast was handled when it surpassed its original donation goal.
Along with Adin Ross and MrBeast, xQc helped to raise $12 million in total for Team Water during the August 15 charity stream, the most money ever raised in a single live stream.
Speaking during his stream on August 18, the Canadian explained that he was frustrated with MrBeast’s decision to keep the fundraiser going even after hitting its original $5 million target.
He said the way the event wrapped up left him feeling conflicted, particularly after one donor contributed a substantial amount of money to help reach the end goal of $5 million.
Why xQc was upset over the way the stream ended
According to xQc, his frustration was not about raising more money, but about the agreement between the donor and the event.
“I was a little bit mad at Jimmy for not ending at 5 million because of the way that it was ending,” he explained. “I felt like a scammer a little bit because we’re kind of robbing him out of that thing that he’s donating for.”
“As a person, not as a streamer, I was mad because Hayes was paying money for charity to wrap it up. He wasn’t paying money to charity. He was saying, ‘Oh yeah, I’m closing the gap to end the broadcast.’ It’s not really transactional, but it’s kind of like clearly, he’s paying to be the last guy to end the stream, which is fair enough.”
He said the contributor, Hayes, paid with the expectation that his donation would close out the broadcast. When the stream continued, xQc said it felt like they had broken that understanding.
The streamer added that the situation forced him to mentally reset for a few hours before he could continue. He made clear he still supported the event’s charitable goals, but stressed that ignoring the original arrangement with the donor left him uncomfortable with how the record-setting fundraiser concluded.
