Yellowstone star Kelly Reilly has carved out a hugely successful career on TV and in film, but some fans are only just learning what she really sounds like.

Kelly Reilly is probably best known as Beth Dutton in Yellowstone, a role she played from when the series launched in 2018, to when it concluded in 2024.

But Reilly has been working steadily since she made her TV debut in 1995, appearing on acclaimed small screen shows like Prime Suspect, Above Suspicion, True Detective, Britannia, and new series Under Salt Marsh, which is currently screening on Sky Atlantic and Now TV in the UK.

On the big screen her credits are just as impressive, with roles in Eden Lake, Flight, and A Haunting in Venice, as well as the plum part of Mary Watson in Sherlock Holmes and its sequel A Game of Shadows. But her accent work across all those movies and shows has some viewers confused.

Yellowstone fans find Kelly Reilly’s real accent “disturbing”

During the above video interview, the English born and bred Kelly Reilly admits that everyone thought she was American on the Yellowstone set, because “I didn’t talk to anybody.”

She adds: “Your voice is different with different characters as well. I don’t sound like me in an American accent. It sounds different!”

Yellowstone fans agree that Reilly sounds different, with one writing underneath the ScreenTime clip: “It’s actually disturbing to hear her speak with her natural British accent,” and another adding alongside a confused emoji: “Sorry what??? Her accent was flawless in that series.”

While a third states: “She was my favorite character, she stole every scene she was in, and I just assumed that her accent was her own. Very impressive.”

There’s also a “Wait! What?!? Mind blown,” and “I had literally zero clue she was British,” while the praise continues with: “She pulled off Beth better than American could do,” and the head-scratching “She’s so talented, she even looks different as Beth.”

But that talent also has one fan frustrated and admitting: “I pride myself on spotting non-American actor’s American accents, but turns out I’m way worse at identifying them than I thought.”

While a good chunk of the comments are directing people to the 1997 film version of Pride & Prejudice, where she plays the very English Caroline Bingley.
