An Australian YouTuber was jailed after he made videos exposing scammers online, and he has finally returned to YouTube after a year of inactivity.
Exposing scammers has become a popular genre of content on the internet, with plenty of videos being made showing off the telltale signs of a scam.
Australian YouTuber Pete Z, who makes content similar to MrBeast, posted videos exposing supposed scammers back in 2024. However, the video landed him in legal trouble. Not only did Pete have the videos struck down across a number of platforms, but he ended up with police searching his home and arresting him on multiple charges.
The Aussie noted that he spent time in a holding cell, but that the police had also “laughed” about the charges. “Obviously, the charges are serious, but they knew that I’m not someone that is dangerous,” he said.
Pete Z returns to YouTube after year away
The YouTuber revealed that he was accused of unlawful stalking, using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, as well as trespassing. These charges could have seen him to prison for a total of nine years.
While his legal representatives attempted to negate the unlawful stalking and using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence charges, he found himself in court every month. Pete was also unable to post YouTube videos about it, leading to a year-long hiatus from the platform.
He had been able to post on social media, but nothing in relation to his charges. And even though he’d promised to return in May, that was put off a little longer.
In his return video, where he showed off footage from his court appearance, the police arresting him at his home, and other moments along the way, the YouTuber revealed that he was initially looking at being convicted.
However, his lawyer managed to bring it down to a fine of $800.
“Those charges were dropped and cleared,” he added, noting he will have to “gain the trust” of viewers again, but it’s something he is “excited” by.
