Police were called, and visitors were evacuated after two bears escaped from a wildlife park enclosure in the United Kingdom.
BBC reported the news on Tuesday, June 24, revealing that two European brown bears named Mish and Lucy escaped from their enclosures inside Wildwood Devon park.
The incident occurred at around 3 pm BST, and the park immediately began ensuring the safety of its visitors. There were 16 people, including children, who were locked in a play barn while the bears were loose.
According to Wildwood Devon park officials, the bears made their way to the honey stash and ate “a week’s worth” of the delicious treat.
Wildwood Devon park responds
The parks director of zoological operations, Mark Habben, revealed in a statement that everyone at the park was “not in harm’s way.”
“Both bears are extremely happy,” he said. “The team was very, very calm, as were the bears at all points.” “The public was not in harm’s way, emergency procedures and everyone did the job they were intended to do.”
According to Habben, the bears breached their enclosure and made way to a nearby staff area. Police were called to support the wildlife park’s team, but the bears “remained very calm throughout” and chose to stay inside the bear house.
Eventually, Mish made her way back to the enclosure on her own, and Lucy was lured back with a bell and her favorite foods.
